NATURAL SITES IN THE PAYS D'UZÈS PONT DU GARD

The Pays d’Uzès Pont du Gard has a perfect harmony between built and natural heritage. Bits of history enter into dialogue with perfectly preserved nature. Some essential natural sites particularly deserve your time and attention.

The Pont du Gard

The famous Pont du Gard was the aqueduct that took water from Uzès to Nimes. Bathers appreciate the shade of the massive structure that crosses the Gardon River offering a pleasant coolness during the summer months.

The Gorges du Gardon

The Gorges du Gardon are home to an emerald river that runs 157 km in the heart of an impressive landscape. Diverse fauna welcome you on your excursion to this Regional Natural Reserve classified as a “World Biosphere Reserve” by UNESCO.

The site of La Baume

The site of La Baume, though difficult to access, owes its fame to the paintings that adorn the walls of the Saint-Vérédème chapel. Walking the path that leads to it is an experience not to be missed.

The Fournès clay pits

The Fournès clay pits, with their peaks and depressions created over the years by erosion, shelter a rich fauna as well. Look about to see our feathered and furry friends.

The Vallée de l’Eure

The Vallée de l’Eure, shaded by plane trees and poplars, contrasts with the aridity of the nearby scrubland. The welcoming fields make it a perfect stopover for picnickers and Sunday fishermen.

The Stone interpretation Trail

The interpretation trail of the Vers-Pont-du-Gard quarry lets you meanders through history and nature. The trails teach you all about the stone used for the Pont du Gard and in the construction of local houses.

The Concluses de Lussan

The Concluses de Lussan are among those places that demand respect and impose humility. Nature has performed wonders here—this great craftsman has been hard at work. You will appreciate the gully carved into the rock, the high cliffs that provide shade and freshness, as well as the water holes, perfect for swimmers.

You will love the varied landscapes during your stay in the Pays d’Uzès Pont du Gard.
